Following the historic cricket encounter between Mahinda College, Galle and Jaffna Hindu College, the two school communities came together once again for the Mahinda–Jaffna Hindu Annual Friendly English Debate 2026.
Under the theme of bringing the North and South closer through meaningful engagement, the debate provided a platform for students from both institutions to exchange ideas, express their perspectives and engage in constructive discussion in English.
The evening was a celebration of knowledge, communication and healthy intellectual exchange, demonstrating that the connection between the two schools extends beyond the sporting field. It offered students an opportunity to build confidence, develop their debating and communication skills, and form new friendships with fellow students from a different part of the country.
The event was organised by Mahindians UAE in collaboration with Mahinda Club Colombo, continuing the initiative to create meaningful opportunities for the Mahinda College and Jaffna Hindu College communities to connect.
Following the inaugural cricket encounter, the friendly debate added another meaningful dimension to the growing relationship between the two institutions — reinforcing the shared values of friendship, respect, learning and unity.
The successful event marks another step towards building a lasting tradition of engagement between the North and South, with Mahinda College and Jaffna Hindu College coming together not only through sport, but also through ideas and dialogue.
