A historic chapter in school cricket was marked as Mahinda College, Galle and Jaffna Hindu College came together for a friendly cricket encounter for the E.A. Wijesooriya & Captain Somasundaram Memorial Trophy.
Held on 4 April at the Mahinda College Cricket Ground, the inaugural encounter brought together two institutions rich in history and tradition, celebrating the shared values of sportsmanship, respect, friendship and unity.
The initiative marked the first-ever cricket encounter between the two schools and went beyond the boundaries of the cricket field. It provided a meaningful opportunity to strengthen connections between the North and South and highlighted the role of sport in bringing communities together.
The match was played in memory of E.A. Wijesooriya and Captain Somasundaram, two distinguished former principals whose contributions to their respective institutions continue to be remembered.
Organised by Mahinda Club (Colombo) together with Mahindians UAE, the event was envisioned as the beginning of a meaningful annual tradition that brings the two school communities together through cricket.
The inaugural encounter stands as a proud milestone for both Mahinda College and Jaffna Hindu College, laying the foundation for a tradition built on friendship, sportsmanship and unity.
