About this event
Bringing together two historic institutions from the North and South, Mahinda College, Galle and Jaffna Hindu College will meet for the first-ever friendly cricket encounter between the two schools.
Established in 1892 by Colonel Henry Steel Olcott, Mahinda College has a proud history spanning over 130 years and has made a significant contribution to education, social development and sport in Sri Lanka. Jaffna Hindu College, established in 1887, is one of Jaffna’s historic educational institutions, with both schools sharing a deep-rooted commitment to preserving their respective cultural, religious and linguistic heritage.
Recognising these shared values and the important role both institutions can play in strengthening friendship and understanding between the North and South, Mahinda Club Colombo, in collaboration with Mahindians UAE, has initiated an annual friendly cricket encounter between the two schools.
The inaugural match will be played for the E.A. Wijesooriya & Captain Somasundaram Memorial Trophy, honouring two distinguished former Principals of Mahinda College and Jaffna Hindu College.
